These are the Good Old Days: Motorcycle Memories of the 50s, 60s & 70s Paperback

You’ll enjoy every memory they share because they’ll remind you of motorcycle memories of your own.

Fred ‘Bro’ Smith takes you back to the 1950s: "I was never a 'star' rider. I just liked to race. I got to know some pretty famous racers, shop owners and officials along the way. I also got to ride on some famous race tracks and in some important, for those days, events. These are my memories from 50+ years ago."

Wayne Hosaka writes about the 1960s: ”In this wide open field there must have been ten guys on 40 cubic inch Triumphs, BSA’s and Nortons lined up handlebar to handlebar, clutch levers pulled tightly against the grip, motors revving higher and higher . . . My excitement had built to a frenzy as the starter threw the flag and the riders dropped the hammer and flew out of the starting gate throwing dirt and dust 20 feet into the air . . . "

Steve Kukla rounds out the memories with the 1970s: “We unloaded the Bultaco at the top flats, strapped a helmet on and took off. Surprisingly it started right up. I was even surprised at how much horsepower it had. You can imagine how amazingly surprised I was when coming back toward Jim the bottom half of the front forks and wheel fell off while pulling it into a wheel stand."

These are the Good Old Days is a compilation of articles written by the three authors that appeared in the pages of S&S Off Road Magazine over a period of about 15 years. Compiled together in a book, they take the reader through three decades of motorcycle memories in Southern California.

If you rode motorcycles back in the day - or always wanted to - you'll laugh and cry along with the authors and remember plenty of motorcycle memories of your own. Order your copy today and grab one for a motorcycle riding buddy while you're at it.

READER REVIEWS

It's true. We ARE in the Good Old Days. - You start reading and suddenly you're back in those good old days of yesterday, where everything is new and where you accumulate scrapes and scratches like dogs collect fleas.
But. If you can't quite do it like you did, at least you can revisit it in this delightful read. - Michael Torrusio, Reviewed 10/2/22

Brings Back a Lot of Good Memories - Nice review about the racing in the 60s and 70s. I never lived in San Diego. I was a North Hollywood dude. Like all the guys in the book I lived like that. Every Friday night at Ascot I was a pit man. Our club, the Lost Angels, helped put on the first AMA National Scrambles at Perris in the late 50s. Came down to El Cajon with the L.A. racers many times. I won the Open class at the first Tecate 100 lap in 1956 I think it was. This book brings back a lot of good times down south has we called it. Not many of those guys or bikes are still around and only a few of the tracks. Thanks for sharing. - Chuck Minniear, Lost Angels MC

These are the Good Old Days Motorcycle Memories Delivers - Informative, easy read, loaded with little jewels of information and facts not generally known among many enthusiasts. It gives the reader a sense of what it was like to be there. You can almost smell the fuel, feel the wind in your face and feel the excitement as you twist that throttle. - Debbie Matthews, WSMX-Women’s School of Motocross
